Professor of Economics

University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa

I am a Professor of Economics at the University of Hawaiʻi. In the past, I have held Visiting Professor positions at Udayana University in Indonesia, IÉSEG School of Management in Paris, Stanford University in California, and Trinity College in Ireland. My area of specialty is the Ocean Economy.

If you ended up here because you are interested in my paper with Juan Carlos Villaseñor-Derbez on spillovers from large MPAs, you can find an ungated version of the paper here. An ungated version of an older paper with Sarah Medoff and Jen Raynor on spillovers from Papahānaumokuākea is available here.

I acknowledge that the ‘āina on which I work and live is part of the larger territory recognized by Indigenous Hawaiians as their ancestral grandmother: Papahānaumoku.
